21 Things for 21 Days

Leading up to National Homeless Person Remembrance Day- Dec 21


Each day we will post a video introducing what we have learned and a call to action to decrease poverty and increase stability in Utah. 

Day 1- Self Care

Donate a Walmart Gift Card to Canyon Creek to help those women escaping Domestic Violence purchase basic self care/hygiene items to help get them a confidence boost.



Day 2- Youth Homelessness

Donate to Youthfuturesutah.org to give resources to create stability and growth among homeless youth.



Day 3- Struggle of Transportation

Consider donating an unused bike to  Cedar City Bike Works to help people in poverty be where they need to be.



Day 4- Lack of Clean and Presentable Clothing

Donate gently used clothing to Treasures- A Presbyterian Thrift Store on Main Street in Cedar City.



Day 5- Addiction is Tough- Recovery is Tougher

Check out Addict II Athlete and consider making a donation. They help replace the negative choices with positive ones.


Day 6- A Funeral is a Luxury

Find a GoFundMe profile that speaks to you that is helping with a family member's funeral expenses.

Day 8- Unexpected Crisis in Poverty

The DOT Fund can help someone during a financial crisis.

Consider donating to www.thedotfund.org.



Day 9- Access to Affordable Childcare

Many do not have access to affordable childcare.

Family Support Center helps close that gap. Consider donating or referring someone who is struggling finding affordable childcare.



Day 10- Learn the Tipping Points and Resources regarding them

Every story is different. Listen to this video to help you identify some common tipping points. Familiarize yourself with local resources to refer anyone you know to them before they reach poverty. Hint: These videos contain some of the available resources.



Day 11- Policy and Lack of Housing

The housing shortage in Utah is making a negative impact. Policy changes and guidelines can help break the gap in affordable housing.

Day 12- LGBTQ+

Familiarize yourself with Encircle.

So you can help someone in this community.



Day 13- Extra Curricular Activities

These activities are important to help kids in poverty feel successful and build work ethic.

Consider volunteering to a extra curricular team/group of your choosing.



Day 14- School Food Pantries

These pantries fill the gap in hunger in our community. There are four current pantries and talks for new ones. Follow Iron County Care and Share's Facebook Page to see how you can volunteer.

Day 15- Compassion and Patience

People in Poverty need more people with ears willing to listen with patience and compassion.

Day 16- Lack of Mental Health Resources during Crisis

Lack of Resources for people experiencing crisis. Makes it difficult for those individuals to heal. Roots Counseling is trying to fill that gap in Cedar City and offer Crisis Mental Health Availability.

Day 17- Lack of Detox Center

There is not a current Detox Center for people in Cedar City. It is essential. Do some research about the benefits of Detox Centers and when there is time to get one in Cedar City- Support it.


Day 18- The Cost of Being Sick

When in poverty, being sick can be the cause of a loss of a job, or a big expense even for a sinus infection. Knowing that this is a struggle can help as a coworker and employee to extend some compassion when others are ill.

Day 19- Impact of Financial Illiteracy

Commit to teaching yourself and family the basic financial literacy skills such as budgeting and paying bills on time.

Day 20- Generational Cycles

The way you grew up can have the biggest impact on your life. Supporting the previously mentioned resources can help break the cycle.


Day 21- Honor the Lives Lost

Lack of resources cause people's lives. In 2021 there were at least 10 lives lost in Cedar. Attend the candlelight vigil on Dec 21 on Main Street Park 6 pm. To honor their lives.
