Away for College

You’re a freshman in college moving away from home for the first time. How exciting is that?! It’s a big step in life and you are starting this new chapter. Living away from home can excite some and scare others. We call it home because that is where we know we can speak our mind and be ourselves, but now you’re moving on. This transition has been made by many of us already so, here are 3 tips we can give you as you take this step.

As a college student that means that you have access to adult money. Money can either work for you or against you. In order to keep your money working for you, create a budget. A budget can be your best friend in college. With a budget you can see where every cent is going instead of getting to the end of your pay check and asking yourself, “What happened?!”. There are many different budgets online that can fit your needs as a college student.

Become self-reliant. To some this is a very difficult step. Being self-reliant is having that confidence and exercising your own power and judgment. Now that you are on your own you have the ability to find out who you are. What are your beliefs and values? Deciding who you want to be and how you are going to get there. Self-reliance will allow you to live more in harmony with yourself. Learn new skills that will let you live the life you want.

Don’t be afraid to go and make new friends! This is an amazing time to go and meet new people. You are going to need a support system during this time. Find those people who are going to help you achieve your goals and assist you in becoming the person you want to be. Be yourself and don’t let fear stop you!

As you begin college remember that this is an exciting time! Everything will fall into place so just have a blast!
