Netgain Partners With Better Help To Offer One Month Free Counseling

In what is believed to be a first of it's kind partnership a Property Management Company in Cedar City, Utah has partnered with an online mental health counseling service to provide all their tenants with one free month access to mental counseling. NetGain Property Management Services in Cedar City has teamed with online mental health counseling service, BetterHelp, to offer a free month online counseling services to their tenants. 

NetGain owner Derek Morton, who has served on boards for local poverty organizations, says more than ever, it's critical to address mental health and remove the stigma of getting treatment for it. “Mental health issues plague every age group in Utah," says Morton. "And now with the many impacts being felt by COVID, it's even more essential to make sure that my tenants are connected to these services, in a way they can most easily access them. Providing a free month allows our tenants to try it out, and see if it's a good fit for them, without any out of pocket expense." 

The free month is being donated with no increase in rent or other fees. Morton says that in the over 10 years he has lived in Cedar City, he has seen first hand the need for better access to mental health services. "In my role as a board member for the different community organizations, it was troubling to see the high rates of depression, anxiety," says Morton. "It's something that became important to me to find possible solutions, and is what pushed me to try something new that would help my tenants and address this problem. So I reached out to several different counseling services, and BetterHelp was thankfully a very willing partner." 

Morton says he feels that by providing this free month it will reduce some of the many barriers that are in place that stop people from accessing mental health services. "I know that mental health is every bit as important as any other healthcare we receive and in many ways, more so," says Morton. "I wish more people understood how difficult it is for a person to tackle important issues in their life, when they can't get out of bed in the morning because of depression? How does one hold a good job when their anxiety is so high they can't focus or function? When I first started Netgain Property Management Services four years ago I was amazed at how different the responses my tenants would have when the stresses of life would hit. The difference in responses to the stresses of life can mean the difference between finding solutions that will allow them to maintain stability in their life, or lose that much needed stability. My hope is that through this partnership my tenants will be better equipped to handle the stresses that inevitably come."
